Rodney is not a cribber but he does take the occasional nibble of the removable wooden barriers [Incipient]. Naturally. this is not my favorite of his habits. The silver lining is that the teethmarks tell me which board to put back in the top slot.

Carrot Snob
Carrots taste different from bag to bag. Apparently. A few days ago, I went out to the barn for the morning check. Mathilda refused her carrot. Usually a horse refusing food is sign to panic, as with Rodney’s recent colic episode [Rest]. However, this carrot was approaching the size of a zucchini. I’d even cutContinue reading “Carrot Snob”
Hunting Season
This was how Rodney spent Thanksgiving. Hunting season began with – dare I say – a bang. Rodney was up on the hill monitoring the noise and occasionally trotting back & forth. Mathilda was in her pen monitoring Rodney and anxious to be out trotting as well. Hence the confinement to her pen. Hubby satContinue reading “Hunting Season”
A Horse’s Thanksgiving

Clean water – Water tastes so much better after being carriedContinue reading “A Horse’s Thanksgiving”
Out Of Our Hands
Mathilda has decided to change her lifestyle. We were slow to get the message, so she took action. At the Thursday morning carrot check, Hubby was greeted with an empty pen, the barriers in place [Debriefing], mare & gelding calmly eating grass out in the pasture. He came back to the house, to fish meContinue reading “Out Of Our Hands”
On Your Mark. Get Set. Go.
Over the weekend, Stepping Stone Farm held a games night. Hubby and I went over to corral stray kids & horses. My last mounted games competition was at college during the riding team’s end-of-term party. Our coach made a point of saving the eggs for the egg-and-spoon race for weeks, making sure you really didContinue reading “On Your Mark. Get Set. Go.”
Jump Crew
Well, this has been a happy little corner of the universe lately. I’ll aim for more cheerful today. After lunging, Hubby jumps Rodney over a few cavaletti, partly for training but mostly because it’s fun to watch him jump. Although I haven’t done courses, Rodney seems about average in knowing that the jumps have beenContinue reading “Jump Crew”
