Rodney is the talented, sensitive star of a TV show, kind and serious, a brilliant actor but not the sharpest knife in the pencil box. Milton is the less attractive – by Hollywood standards – character actor who is hired to play the wacky sidekick and does so well that he gets a spin-off show of his own.
