Minor mishap with cart.

Milton kicked out and damaged the jog cart.

Rider is fine. Horse is fine, with a few booboos. Jog cart, not so much.

Milton let us – for a Milton definition of “let” – help him and the quick releases did their quick release thing.

A bump in the road.

Milton’s triumphant return to CDE will take a while longer.

Results Recap

Virtual Tevis Cup 2024, 100 Miles in 100 Days, 10 April to 21 July.

Rodney, 100 Miles, 10 April to 24 June.

Milton, 100 Miles, 10 April to 1 July.

Commentary

Perfect attendance! From start to finish Milton went out every day!

Each outing was a one-mile, so we went out 100 times. Rodney only walked. Milton did some trotting while hitched. We went out almost every morning. On the weekends, we would go out again in the afternoon. Riding and hitching was in the afternoons at the beginning, then switched to mornings once the heat landed.

Precipitation cooperated. One morning it rained hard enough that we went out in the afternoon. A few mornings, we walked in a heavy mist. One day was close enough to actual rain that the horses could not believe they were having to work! (gentle hand-walk) in! a! downpour! (light rain).

Milton: ride 18 miles, hand-walk 70 miles, drive 12 miles.

As I said elsewhere, Milton was one of the few entries to ride and hand-walk AND drive. He ended up with more rides than Rodney from one day when I was tired the afternoon of a show and chose to hand-walk, and one day when Rodney had a mild eye irritation that kept me out of the saddle but did not prevent him from walking his mile.

Rodney: ride 16 miles, hand-walk 84 miles.

Rodney missed days for three reasons. One, when I had to be out of town for family stuff. Well, he missed Virtual Tevis miles, but he still went for walks with Milton. Two, lost shoe. Three, one day when Milton hitched in the morning and we chose not to come back in the afternoon. If we had been defending a streak, we could have done something. He finished before Milton by doing more afternoon walks during the week. His 84 rides were not 84 miles of riding, since we did a lap or two of hand-walk to settle before starting the ride.

I was amazed at how fast the miles mounted when we did double sessions on the weekends, and how much it dropped off once it became too hot to work in the afternoons.

Bucket Color, Again

Awareness of the outside world. Time and Date: What Is the First Day of the Week?. Following the news. Choosing not to comment at the moment.

Update. Choosing not to comment is in itself a comment. Not being mysterious here. Busy reading what others are saying. Have nothing new to add.

Fortiflex bucket from Tractor Supply.

The bucket color adventure continues. To recap, feed stored in house. Feed brought from house to barn in small buckets. Had a red bucket for Milton and a green bucket for Rodney.

Milton’s red bucket got stomped, or more accurately, slept on. Why is it always Milton’s bucket that breaks? Had a spare bucket. Black. No problem telling black and green apart. In daylight. Guess what two colors look similar in a dim barn.

Got red, since it has been working lately. Would have preferred white, but they did not have.

The Bucket Color Saga

White & green became red & green. It was a problem. [Feed Buckets and Color Theory]

We got a gray bucket. [On A Day About Food Another Post About Feed]

Grey bucket broke.

Back to red & green. It was not a problem. [Feed Buckets, Colors, and Once Again Proving That The Brain Is Weird]

Red bucket broke.

Black & green. It was a problem, above.

Again, back to red & green. We shall see.

Art of the outside world. Michelle, rider & blog contributor, has been accepted as a member of an art gallery. Facebook: River Art Gallery of Pascagoula, 10 July. Whoot! [Macho Dresses Up As Dr. Whooves, Travel Posts & Cat Photos & More by Michelle D.]

For My Reference

New this time. First image, border in Inkscape at same time as image. Second image, border in GIMP. Differences, no beveling in Inkscape, inner & outer liners to border. GIMP can be made flat; Inkscape beveled? Since the frame is a shape, stuck with both inner & outer liners, or neither. Different width, but that I can adjust.

Never Have I Ever, Breyer Collector Edition, Blog Hop

Awareness of the outside world. “A portion of the proceeds from the Never Say Neigh-ver 5K will benefit Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement.” Breyer: Never Say Neigh-ver 5K – BreyerFest 2024. “On the Thursday morning of Breyerfest, Mackenzie and I made the very short trek to tour Old Friends.” Kristin Beverly: Old Friends, 2023.

In honor of BreyerFest this weekend. Breyer: What Is BreyerFest 2024?

Inspiration. “Never Have I Ever prompt from Sputter Moo Productions.” Braymere Custom Saddlery: Never have I ever, Breyer collector edition, January 23, 2024. Sputter Moo Productions.

Never have I ever …

Gone To Breyerfest. Fractional points for virtual. [2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 no post]

Customized a model. Vague memories of a failed attempt to customize a model as a kid. Dunno if it was a Breyer or not.

Owned a decorator. Yes. [Shopping: My First Model]

Congo-ed a mold. A micro congo. Identify Your Breyer: Esprit. I have Fire (2014 Year of the Horse), Neptune & two Apollos. It was interesting. I’ve stopped.

Talked to my models. I have two on my desk at the moment. I tell them they are pretty. Both decorators, BTW.

Gone to a live show. [What Happens at a Model Horse Show?]

Witnessed the aftermath of model “dominoes”. Cue Catzilla. Loose models no longer live on the top of bookcases.

Owned a blue model. Yes. [Low Key Photo Challenge: Toys]

The blue Big Lex model is my one grail, Scale Farm: Breyer 9132. Otherwise mostly done, “Today is the first day of Virtual Breyerfest. I sense model horses slipping into the loose ends category. I will “attend” this weekend’s festivities, walk the virtual 5K, and then probably not think about plastic ponies until next year.” [Horse Brasses and Permission Not To Pay Attention, NHBS 2021]

Read this whole list. Braymere ends their post with , “Read this whole list. Not only did I read it, I turned it into an entire blog post.” Yup.

Stepping Stone Farm is at the Lexington Junior League Horse Show with five horses and four riders/drivers. I am at home, cheering virtually.

Love That Baby, Reagan Huguley riding.

Finnmaster, Jessica Kasperian riding.

Mr. Bubbles, Sharon Gray driving.

Screenshots from livestream by Richfield Video. Border added. Crawl blanked for in-class images to prevent confusion. Rider captions do not track images during the class. They match when one is doing a victory pass. Whoot!

Did not get pics of remaining SSF contingent. I am dependent on what RV chooses to show, and how fast I can press the buttons.

Kentucky Horse Park

The ASB show runs from Monday 8 July to Saturday 13 July. Also this week is BreyerFest from Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14. Also, One and Done Horse Trials, Friday, July 12 – Sunday, July 14.

That means on Saturday, there will be Saddlebreds in the Rolex Arena, cross-country out in the fields and model horse folks everywhere else. Only at KHP.

Helmet Watch

Helmets spotted in Pleasure Equitation, Age 14 to 17 and Walk & Trot Pleasure, Age 12 & Under. One in each class. In hunters, two helmets, six hunt caps in the adults; four helmets, one hunt cap in the juniors. I assume helmets in driven & ridden road horses for kids. I guess adult heads don’t break?

Anyway.

The lone helmet took third out of thirteen in Pleasure Eq. Yay! Random human. Not an SSF person.
