A saddleseat whip makes an excellent cat toy. It’s shorter and stiffer than a dressage whip, so it moves in a darting. mouse-like fashion.

I wonder if the cat smalls the horse on the whip? If so, does the smell communicate the size of the horse?
Seems to be sight rather than smell, but I shall observe more closely.
