I have not yet had a lesson at New Barn. [Checking Out A Possible New LessonΒ Barn]

I have emailed them several times with various brilliant ideas. I have stopped by twice. All of this before becoming an official client. I am worried that I am starting to approach stalker levels. This is not idle insecurity on my part. My enthusiasm is vast and not always well received. [Not My Horses, Not My Barn]

Didn’t matter as much with Previous Horse. I had my own horse. I could do my own thing. I was not dependent on the good will of others to ride.

Meanwhile, Stepping Stone Farm continues to be a haven. The plan was to take March off to perhaps learn & grow. [The Next Step]

I didn’t make the entire month of March, but I did make four weeks after the last Winter Tournament in mid-February. I learned that the only thing I was growing was mold. Resumed ride & drive lessons.

If I get started with New Barn, I may put the SSF ride lessons on hold for a bit. Get myself settled with a new instructor before I try to do both.

Adjusting the Walks

Awareness of the outside world. Vest watch. Rodrigo Pessoa wore a safety vest at Longines Ocala. You don’t get riders more stylish or more successful than Pessoa. Photos here, Jumper News: Rodrigo Pessoa: An Icon Returns to Chantilly! R&B Presse for Chantilly Classic. One of the photos shows the vest leashed to the saddle, so I assume an air vest. We have changed the program for morning walks on days when the horses work.

Husband Greg does all long lining and lunging. He has more patience and it’s good practice for his driving. Previously, I had been standing around holding the non-working horse. Now, we walk. We all do a lap to start. Then, Milton works while Rodney and I walk back & forth. Swap horses. Rodney works while Milton and I walk.

I say work. I use the term loosely. A few circles at trot and canter to get the blood moving and the snorts out. A few mornings a week.

Walk options.

Halters & hand walk. It’s cold. The footing is poor. It’s Monday and they did what passes for real work over the weekend. Time is limited. And so on.

Lunging tack & circles A. Sometimes long line. More recently lunging to encourage forward. I hold non-working horse. This was the paradigm in the past. Still this way if they’ve already done their walk in the morning and this is the afternoon session on the weekend.

Lunging tack & circles B. As above. I keep walking. Moving better than standing for all involved. Both horses get the experience of working or walking by! them! selves! Yards away from their buddy! Possibly even out of sight for a few moments!

They are always entertaining.

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, Repurposing a Muck Bucket

Awareness of the outside world. Business Insider: This 23-Year-Old USC Student Created One Of The Most Recognizable Logos Of All Time, Bhasin, 2012.

At Stepping Stone Farm. No longer suitable for carrying manure.

Chez nous. Suitable for sorting hay.

In order to keep Milton on his feeding regimen, his hay for the day is weighed & portioned out each morning. I was looking to buy yet another bucket. Spotted this at SSF. Can I have this? You want a broken bucket? Sure, take it.

REDUCE? Ha. REUSE? Yes! RECYCLE? No one takes plastic #2. If they did, I doubt they would take an old muck bucket.

Edible Book 2024, Food Art

Art of the outside world. The Brothers Brick: Jewelled eggs for all occasions. FabergΓ©-style eggs in LEGO bricks. Joyous Easter and/or Sunday, whichever you celebrate.

My edible book for 2024.

Ate the result. As I did not do last year. [Edible Book]

Elsewhere

There doesn’t appear to be a central source for Edible Book displays or contests. Each school or library has their own rules. The College of Saint Benedict & Saint John’s University libraries in Minnesota require that the Edible Book refer to a well-known book, that the source book be recognizable from the design, and that it be 75% edible, Instagram: @csbsjulibraries 29 March.

Inspiration

This year. Make: How-To: Edible Books, Cox, 2011, from Hungry Happenings: Fruit Leather Books, white text block with fruit leather cover.

Another simple idea, possibly for next year. Wendy Welch: EDIBLE BOOK CONTEST SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 2014. Scroll down for simple pages with Japanese binding

Creek, Photography

Awareness of the outside world. The Pulitzer Prizes: 10 images from the Newseum’s Pulitzer Prize photo gallery, A Q&A with the curator of the popular Pulitzer Prize-winning photography exhibit. Pepitone, approx 2016. Content warning, some seriously disturbing photos. News-worthy photos do not arise from the happy moments in life. I keep forgetting this fact. “A significant percentage of our visitors are schoolchildren, so we do have a warning on the wall at the entrance of the gallery. However, I think visitors understand that these are news photographs and that we live in a troubled world.” Babic, ibid. Still, interesting to read how the exhibit was put together.
