I heard about fry bread in Stabenow’s Kate Sugak books. “Each signed first edition hardcover sold by the Poisoned Pen will include a recipe card for fry bread, kindly shared by master fry bread maker Joyce White.” Stabenow: Drum roll, please!. IRL fry bread can be a cultural and political symbol, Smithsonian: Frybread, This seemingly simple food is a complicated symbol in Navajo culture, Miller 2008.
