A is for Amethyst. International Gem Society: Amethyst Symbolism
A is for Alphabet. I am doing colorwork as an alphabet because it gives me a collection of shapes to work with. Also, I clearly have some weird fascination with the letters of the alphabet.

I love your work. How about a theme year, the names of gems and semi-precious stones as well as the actual letter?
Unfortunately gems have a lot of repeat letters and very little for the weird letters. Will definitely use them where I can.
