Sakura Festival Haiku, Poetry

Awareness of the outside world. Think good thoughts for a friend stepping back into the show ring today. Go E! Ride that pony! You got this!

White and pink and new,
Flowers unfold. Flowers fade;
Memory preserves.

My entry for the 38th Annual Sakura Festival & Haiku Contest, Saturday, March 23th, Tuscaloosa, AL USA. Sent in my entry. Did not attend.

The theme of the 2024’s Sakura Festival is “uketsugu/受け継ぐ” or “preserve.” The spring celebration of Sakura, or cherry blossoms, reminds us of the value of each moment, while the return of spring awakens us to fresh possibilities in life. This year’s theme reminds us to cherish and carry on the connection that was built between the community of Tuscaloosa and our sister-city, Narashino, in Japan.” UA: Sakura Festival.

“The cherry blossom, or sakura, is the flower of trees in Prunus subgenus Cerasus. ‘Sakura’ usually refers to flowers of ornamental cherry trees, such as cultivars of Prunus serrulata, not trees grown for their fruit (although these also have blossoms). Wiki: Cherry blossom.

  1. Your haiku is beautiful. Memories preserve so many things besides cherry blossoms.

  2. Oh my goodness thank you for your good wishes! I am reading your blog first thing! I’m excited but happy to be showing again today- having a confident and kind 24 -year-old Goddaughter alongside helping and showing today as well is key! And I love cherry blossoms and haiku, so hopefully good signs!
