Fractal Christmas Tree

Art of the outside world. Foreach, a webcomic. “Foreach is a comic about cycles, parenthood, power, friendship, escapism, and videogames … Content warnings for: blood, violence, themes of trauma and depression, reference to suicide. ” About. Recommended by my friend Alexi H.S., “Foreach is a beautiful Escher print of dysfunction, a cascade of conflicting needs. What if you didn’t have to struggle for love? What if the world wasn’t suffocatingly cheery? What if you could effortlessly blow through any challenge? What if you didn’t need to?”

Truth in advertising. I have started the comic. Intend to read it. Have not read it extensively. Because of the format, I found it easiest to read on a big screen.

Process Notes

Taking a break from the fractal alphabet for a holiday-themed entry.

In case my design skills are not up to it. The idea here is that the tree has ornaments, which are trees, which have ornaments, which … and so on. Due to resolution limits, I stopped at 3 iterations. I leave the rest to your imagination. It’s trees all the way down.

I’ve been leaning into Christmas this year. A change from last year when I vehemently did not, ‘I am declaring it to be December. That’s it, just December.” [A Brief Check-In]

The proliferation of Christmas symbols is not a statement on the season. It’s more that I need things to photograph, to write about, and to draw. So I reach for what is available. I have considered other December holidays. For example, a fractal menorah practically draws itself. Each candle holder becomes the base for another menorah, each of which becomes the base … and so on. However, I wasn’t sure if this would be received as amusing or intrusive. So, Christmas trees it is. Looks at blog calendar. Not gonna to stop for a while.

Onwards!
